BOULDER, CO, March 06, 2019 Marquis Who’s Who, the world’s premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present J. Frank Sampson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Sampson is an American artist and a professor emeritus of fine arts at the University of Colorado who taught on campus for 29 years. Hired in 1961 as an assistant professor, he later served as an associate professor from 1968 to 1972 before becoming a full professor. He attained emeritus status in 1990.
A career that included one-man shows at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and the Denver Art Museum, Mr. Sampson has also since been represented in many permanent collections across the country. These collections have included such locations as the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, NE, Washburn University in Topeka, KS, the Boston Public Library, the Arvada Center of the Arts in Colorado, the Springfield Art Museum in Missouri and the Des Moines Art Center in Iowa.
A Fulbright fellow from 1959 to 1961, Mr. Sampson has been cited in the 23rd through the 25th editions of Who’s Who in the West He was inspired by his mother, a former teacher, to go into art, because when he was little she would make up these incredible fantasy stories which included many animals. , Mr. Sampson earned a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia College in Minnesota in 1950, followed by a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa in 1952. He then served in the U.S. Army between 1954 and 1956 before completing postgraduate coursework at the University of Iowa between 1956 and 1959.
